Miss Congeniality

Miss Congeniality is a movie that i would considered a very roller coaster type movie. I feel that parts of it are empowering and other parts not so much. The reason i choose this movie is because it's been on HBO for the month, but other then that it's one of my favorites. The reasons that i say that this movie is empower and unempowering because she is an independent women that's a workaholic and can fend on her own, they depict her has a loner. Because she loves her job she cant love or have relationships with anyone else. With here workaholic mentality makes her very un-womenly. She didn't brush her hair, or cook dinner she ate microwave meals and she walked manly. She goes and and works out, shes probably one of the only girls that has a punching bag in her living room. I think that here being able to defend herself is empowering. She is ideally what most would call masculine but she is just not by any ones standards and she doesn't care. It does seem that her character is lonely and sad with her loneliness but would rather be lonely and take care of herself. Parts of the movie that i believe are empowering are:
-when her and her following agent are sparring they are auguring about her being in the beauty pageant and they are obviously evenly matched, they are tip for tat with each move.
-At the end of the Pageant, she saves that day
- Even when they dress her up shes true to herself, yes shes pretty but she still undeniably intelligent.
-And she her talent towards the end of the movie is a self defense course.
Some of the things that i thought might be unempowering are:
-She agrees to be a part of the Pageant for her job but also as a way to better herself.
-She used to think that beauty pageants are stupid then at the end she has a change of heart, which isn't a bad things but it's against her original view.
There aren't many bad views, if you know more I'm very open about this blog i just feel that Gracie was Caterpillar to the butterfly, but she stayed true to herself!
